Andréa Huguenin Botelho[1] (Rio de Janeiro, May 22, 1973) is a German-Brazilian conductor, researcher, composer and pianist, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and based in Berlin, Germany.
She is a graduate of the University of Rio de Janeiro - Uni-Rio, in Brazil, and holds a Masters in Piano and Orchestral Conducting from Georgia State University in Atlanta in the United States, as well as a postgraduate degree in piano from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany and specialization in operatic conducting by the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
During his musical training, he was under the guidance of masters such as Heitor Alimonda, Homero de Magalhães, Luiz de Moura Castro and Luiz Senise. In the area of orchestral conducting and piano improvement, outstanding musicians and teachers respected around the world, such as Michael Palmer, Jorma Panula, Leonid Korchmar, Fanny Solter and Ulrike Meyer were his teachers.
Currently, she works as a conductor in Berlin, Germany, as artistic director and conductor of the Brasil Ensemble Berlin[2] and the Ayabás Frauenchor Berlin, in addition to carrying out independent work at the head of orchestras and pedagogical work. As a researcher, she focuses her work on Music and Gender.
Botelho is actively involved in various projects and organizations related to music. She assists in the coordination of the Women Conductors Symposium, collaborates with the Archiv Frauen & Musik[3] in Frankfurt, Germany and is part of the Working Group of Women Conductors linked to the Association of the Internationaler Arbeitskreis Frau und Musik e.V.. In addition, she is a member of the Mandonas research group at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, coordinated by Professor Joana Maria Pedro. This project, supported by CNPQ, aims to narrate the trajectory of women who became leaders in different fields in the Southern Cone.
Since December 2021, she has been an ambassador for Donne, Women in Music in London, founded by Gabriella de Laccio.
In 2023, Botelho participated as a pianist and initiator in two projects financed by Germany's Neustart Kultur on the theme of women and music, namely Nós, Brasileiras with songs by Brazilian composers and Frauen um den Kontrabass (Women around the Double Bass). Both projects featured their own transcriptions and compositions.
Andréa Huguenin Botelho is a reference in intercultural relations[4] between Brazil and Germany and a representative of women in music, especially in Latin America.
