Randolf Jimenez is a Toronto-based, Venezuelan session drummer, percussionist, songwriter, singer and author.
Early life
Jimenez started practicing by himself when he was only 4 years old, after receiving a small toy drum kit from his parents, as a Christmas present.[1] He began his music career in his natal city Caracas at age 16.[2]
Career
In 2011, he released his first album "Randolf Jimenez Latin Jazz Project". Soon after that, he was referred to as "The Venezuelan Groove".[3] [4]. Randolf incorporated the cajon set in jazz music in Venezuela, which includes a Peruvian cajon with different percussion and Drum kit elements[5].
In 2013, Jimenez moved to Toronto, Canada..[2] He has played in major festivals and venues like Toronto Centre for the Arts, The Opera House (Toronto), Harbourfront Centre, Glenn Gould Studio, Nathan Phillips Square, Yonge–Dundas Square among others. As a sideman, Randolf has worked with a wide variety of musicians, playing different music styles like Jazz, Rock, Pop, World music and Latin Jazz [6]. He has performed, recorded and collaborated with several award-winning musicians and artists like Shajin Najafi, Sergio George, Nikolay Devlet-Kildeyev (Moral Code X), Miguel de la Bastide, Bill McBirnie, Aisha Stambouli, María Rivas (singer), Quique Escamilla and many more[6]. He has also participated as a composer for film scores. As an educator, Randolf has taught hundreds of students in different music academies. He has also given masterclasses and workshops in Malta, Canada and Venezuela[6]
As an author, Jimenez released "Los 5 Secretos del Exito, en el negocio de la Músical" in 2020. A year later, he published a drum method guide "The Groove Schoolbook" through Mel Bay Publications.
