Andre Koo (Chinese: 辜仲立; pinyin: Gū Zhòng Lì; 25 May 1967) is a multi-billionaire Taiwanese financier chairman Chailease Group.

Family ancestry[edit]

The rise of today’s Koo family dates back to the late nineteenth century in LuKang, the capital at the time. The first generation Koo ancestors held monopolistic investments in camphor, salt, sugar, and land.[2]

Early years[edit]

Koo was born in 1967 in Taiwan. He graduated from New York University Stern School of Business in New York City in 1994. His father, Dr. Jeffrey Koo Sr. and eldest son Andre Koo Jr. also attended NYU Stern as the 3rd legacy alum.[1]

Family Achievements[edit]

Around the mid 20th century, Dr. Jeffrey Koo Sr., Koo's father, co-founded with his uncle, Koo Chen-fu, the Koos Group which is a conglomerate/consortium of businesses including cement, insurance, financial services, leasing, hospitality, etc., and most notably, Chinatrust Financial Holding – one of the largest privately owned commercial banks in Asia. Dr. Jeffrey Koo Sr. was also an Eisenhower Fellowship awardee and ambassador at-large representing Taiwan in cross-strait relations with China, and attended major international forums such as the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation).

In 2019, Andre Koo is currently ranked as Taiwan's #28th wealthiest and #1349 world-wide at $1.7 billion.[3]

Koo is the chairman of Chailease Holding. Chailease Holding Ltd., founded in 1977, is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and has operations in Taiwan, the United States, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines. Chailease Holding provides clients with leasing, installment sales, factoring and direct financing services. It is the market leader of leasing and installment sales in Taiwan, and is the largest foreign-owned independent leasing company in China. Yellowstone Holding owns subsidiaries that engage in a number of diverse business activities including equity investment, industrial equipment sales, polymer processing and sales, real estate construction and development, interior design, private security, property management and hospitality. The Shanghai arm, Chailease International Finance Co., Ltd., is the largest foreign privately owned Financial Service in China.

Today, Chailease Group has over 45 companies that operate in 13 countries with more than 100 offices and 6,000 employees - major footprints include over 46 branches/subsidiaries in Chinese provinces.[5]

He is a member of the NYU Board of Trustees and has served on the Stern Board of Overseers since 2012. He is also President of the NYU Pan-Asia Alumni Association, which he established. As of July 1, 2019, Koo is effectively the Chair of the School’s Board of Overseers. Andre Koo is the first internationally based business leader to serve in this position.HeKoo additionally was honored by NYU President and Dean for the recognition of gifting the landmark, 1-year Andre Koo Technology & Entrepreneurship Program.[6] A lobby is named after Koo at the NYU Stern School of Business, where his father, Dr. Jeffrey Koo Sr., and his eldest son obtained their MBA's and B.S. Finance Degrees.
