Andrea Koevska (born February 14, 2000), known as Andrea, ― Macedonian pop-singer, born in Skopje. Andrea plays two instruments, guitar and piano, but she says that the voice is her strongest instrument.
Early life[edit]
Andrea's love for music began in her early childhood at the age of five, when she and her parents moved to Harlem, New York, United States, where they lived for a year. Her first memories of music were the sounds of gospel, soul, jazz[1] and R&B that turned her into an artist and a huge music lover. She comes from a respectable family, with a law professor father and a physicist mother, who expected her to follow in their footsteps and gain a "valued" career.[2] Andrea, however, decided to do something completely different from her parents' expectations, following her talent and passion by getting into music.
Career[edit]
Her music story started completely by accident. Just for fun she started posting short videos on her Instagram account with remakes and covers of famous pop and rock hits. Her talent and vocal abilities were noticed and recognized by the famous music producer Aleksandar Masevski, who invited her to his studio and offered her a collaboration. He was also the main motivator for her to later enroll at the Faculty of Music, Skopje in the department of solo singing - popular genres.[2][3]
Andrea and her producer Aleksandar decided to start creating music and write lyrics exclusively in English in order for music to reach the listeners faster and aim for an international career.
Her first song "I Know" was released on October 23, 2020. The song was broadcast on over 100 radio stations in many countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Norway, South Africa, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia and others. In a short time, the song counted hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and more than 4 million views on the TikTok platform. Andrea has also appeared on several podcast shows from Mexico[4] and the Netherlands.[2]
In February 2021, as part of the orchestral music project "Fames", she and her team in collaboration with the music composer Bete Ilin, conductor Oleg Kondratenko and video producer Vladimir Mitrevski Gjule, made an orchestral performance of her songs.[3]
Music influences[edit]
- Lauryn Hill
- Hayley Williams – lead singer of Paramore, her favorite band from her high school days.
- Jessie J - whose performances and vocal features were the main directions in building Andrea's music style.
