Andrea Meza Murillo

Andrea Meza Murillo is a Costa Rican politician and diplomat. She served as the Minister of Environment and Energy in Costa Rica from 2020 to 2022.[1]


Education

She holds a Law and Public Notary degree (with honors) from the University of Costa Rica. Additionally, she received training at Utrecht University in International, European, and Dutch Law, Comparative Administrative Law, and Environmental Law. She holds a postgraduate degree in Local Public Management from the Union of Ibero-American Municipalities (UIM) at Carlos III University - Menéndez Pelayo International University.[2]

Career

She is an expert in sustainable development with more than 20 years of experience in public policy formulation and project implementation. She has worked in more than 15 countries in Latin America on multidisciplinary projects funded by multilateral organizations such as the IDB, World Bank, CAF, European Union, and UNDP, as well as with national governments.[2]

She served as director of climate change in Costa Rica.

In 2022, Meza was appointed as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).[3]

Personal life

Meza is married and has two daughters.[4]
