Andreas Thurner (born 1978) is a German–American automotive designer known for the first-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost and Rolls-Royce Dawn luxury cars.[1][2][3][4]
Early life and education
Thurner was born in Bitburg, Germany. He studied transportation design at the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences in Germany.[5][6]
Career
Thurner joined the design department at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars (then part of the BMW Group) in the early 2000s as concept exterior designer [7]. Later he was the company's head of exterior design [8]. Between 2004 and 2013, Thurner designed multiple Rolls-Royce models.[9][10]
Rolls-Royce 200EX & Rolls-Royce Ghost
Thurner is credited as the exterior designer and lead exterior designer of the 200EX concept (unveiled in 2009 at the Geneva International Motor Show) and the first-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost (unveiled in 2009 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show)[11][12][13] including the extended wheelbase variant.[14][15]
Rolls-Royce Phantom VII Series II
Thurner is credited with contributing to the exterior design updates introduced with the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII Series II.[16][17][18]
Rolls-Royce Wraith
Automotive sources list Thurner as a co-designer of the exterior of the Rolls-Royce Wraith, credited alongside Pavle Trpinac.[19][20][21]
Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II
Independent coverage and archival materials associate Thurner with exterior redesign work undertaken for the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II. The model introduced revised front-end styling and updated surface treatment.[22][23]
Rolls-Royce Dawn
Automotive press credits Thurner for the exterior design of the Rolls-Royce Dawn, a convertible grand tourer introduced in 2015.[4][24]
Thurner left Rolls-Royce Motorcars in 2013 to hold various design leadership roles within the BMW Group and Karma Automotive before starting his own namesake firm in Los Angeles, where he focuses on premium and one-off designs. [25][26][27][28][29][30]
