Andrene Low[1] (born 1957) is a New Zealand comedian and writer of Ngāti Kahungunu, and Pākehā background. In 2021, her novel DietVale was long listed for the Julius Vogel Award,[2] and was an entrant in the 2021 Ngaio Marsh Awards.
Biography[edit]
Low was born in Levin in 1957. She attended school in New Zealand. She completed a six-month-long creative writing course in 2010 at The Creative Hub. She now lives in Napier.
Writing[edit]
Andrene Low began work on her comedic novels whilst she was working as a stand-up comedian in Auckland.[3] Her first novel was published by the American publisher Rebel ePublishing in 2013.[4] Her published works include: This Girl's Abroad (2013), Mounted and Hung (2015), and Screwed for Money (2016). Following the closure of Rebel ePublishing, Low signed with Squabbling Sparrows Press, a boutique New Zealand publisher. Through them, she re-released her first three novels with new titles and covers - Friday Night Fever (2017), Brushed with Fame (2017), and Strapped for Cash (2017). Squabbling Sparrows Press also published her Life on the Edge collection of novellas (2020), and DietVale (2020).
Under the pseudonym 'Andie Low’, she has published seven novels and one novella in her Marina Witches Mysteries,[5] a series specifically targeting the American market. She released Dead and Married in 2021.
Andrene Low is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors.[6]
Andrene Low appeared on the Criminal Minds panel for the Auckland Fringe Festival in 2021.[7][8] Low appeared at the Auckland Arts Festival White Night in 2017.[9]
