Andrés Esono Ondó Okogo1​ (Añisoc, February 4, 1961) is an Equatorial Guinean politician and academic, current Secretary General of the Convergence for Social Democracy (CPDS).

Biography[edit]

He is a sociologist from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and a graduate in Political Science from the National University of Distance Education (UNED).​ He worked as a teacher at the Spanish School of Malabo and in other establishments.2​ Currently He is Head of Studies at the UNED in Malabo2​ and between 1993 and 2003 he was a tutor at this university.4​ He has worked as a national consultant for the World Bank and for three United Nations agencies: UNICEF, UNFPA and UNDP.

He began his political career in 1986 as a founding member of the Socialist Party of Equatorial Guinea (PSGE).2 In 1992 he left this party and joined the Convergence for Social Democracy (CPDS), serving as Secretary of Communication of this formation3 ​ in addition to being part of its National Executive Commission.

In the 2013 municipal elections he was elected councilor of the Malabo city council.

In December 2013, he was elected the new Secretary General of the CPDS, succeeding Placido Mico.

For the 2017 Equatorial Guinea legislative elections he ran for the national parliament, but failed to be elected.

In October 2022, Esono Ondó announced his presidential candidacy for the 2022 elections.5​6​ In the elections, Esono Ondó obtained 2.31% of the votes, denouncing the process as fraudulent.

He is married and has three children.
