Early Life

Andrew Chapin was born on November 12, 1988 in Derby, Connecticut. He was raised in nearby Southbury, Connecticut and graduated from Pomperaug Regional High School in 2007. He then attended Vermont State University in Lyndonville, Vermont, where he earned his degree in Business Administration and served two terms as president of the Student Government Association from 2008-2010.

Career

Chapin began his career in Vermont selling radio advertising for a group of radio stations in Lyndonville, Vermont before leading marketing efforts at the Vermont Spirits Distilling Company craft distillery in Quechee, Vermont.

He then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked in business development for Microsoft. Chapin left Microsoft to coordinate, manage, and execute marketing campaigns for Color Labs, a live video streaming service which was acquired by Apple in 2012.

Chapin was the first business hire at Feathr, a leading B2B marketing software provider before he left to start Benja Commerce Network in 2014.

Benja Commerce Network was the world’s first shoppable advertising network. The company initially launched as a personalized shopping mobile application before expanding to include a portfolio of direct-to-consumer e-commerce stores, and an interactive online display ad network. The company raised between $2 and $3 million from angel investors including Tony Hsieh. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and Chapin was convicted of securities fraud for making false representations on company financial documents.

Chapin was a founding member of the Board of Directors at Jomboy Media and regularly contributes to several publications including the San Francisco Download, Benzinga, and Hacker Noon in addition to his personal blog.
