Andrew Ian Port is an American historian and professor at Wayne State University.
Career
Port earned his undergraduate degree at Yale University and completed his dissertation at Harvard University. He is currently a member of the faculty at Wayne State University. Port was review editor of the German Studies Review from 2012 to 2014, and editor-in-chief of Central European History from 2014 to 2019.[1]
His first book, Conflict and Stability in the German Democratic Republic, was published in 2007. The German translation, Die Rätselhafte Stabilität der DDR, garnered praise and inspired controversy among the general German populace.[2][3]
In 2023, Port's book, Never Again: Germans and Genocide After the Holocaust, examined German reactions to genocides in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Cambodia.[4] The book's release coincided with a greater push among historians to reexamine Germany’s Vergangenheitsbewältigung, culminating in the Catechism Debate, to which Port also contributed.[5]
