Andrzej Dragan (born 16 May 1978) is a Polish theoretical physicist, science communicator, photographer, filmmaker and composer. Dragan is a teaching and research professor at the University of Warsaw working on quantum information. In photography, he is known for the Dragan effect.[1][2][3][4]
Research and career[edit]
Dragan studied at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw where he attained his PhD.[2]
He worked at the Imperial College London and the University of Nottingham.[2] He is also a visiting research associate professor at the National University of Singapore.[2]
His research topics include quantum optics, relativistic quantum information, theory of relativity, and quantum field theory.[2] His recent collaboration with Artur Ekert resulted in a series of papers which propose that extending special relativity to include faster-than-light inertial observers directly leads to the existence of the quantum behaviors we observe in nature.[5][6][7]
Photography[edit]
Dragan started his first works on photography in 2003.[3] Dragan published works include portraits of many known personalities from the world of film, art and politics,[1][2][3][4] including:[8]
- 2004: Jerzy Urban,
- 2004: Andrzej Mleczko,
- 2004: Kuba Wojewódzki.
- 2005: David Lynch,
- 2005: Jan Peszek,
- 2007: Mads Mikkelsen,
- 2010: Jim Broadbent,
- 2013: Daniel Olbrychski
- 2016: Joss Stone
Dragan's work popularized an image-editing effect referred to as the Dragan effect, which uses dramatic lighting and editing techniques that enhance face and skin features in portraits.[1]
