History
The Beginning (2007-2009)
Angerseed was formed at the very end of 2007 in Debrecen, HU. The founder and creator, Peter D. Maniak (vocals), had already been a well-known participant of the Hungarian Underground scene for nearly two decades at the time. In the 90's, he earned inland popularity with his band called Carbon Cage, then later in the 00's Neochrome became his second successful band. While Carbon Cage played a kind of dark multi-influenced progressive music, Neochrome represented the Blackened Death Metal style. The balance on the 2nd Neochrome album turned more towards a specified line of Black Metal which made Maniak dissatisfied. He started to think about a real Death Metal band (in the beginning he wanted to make it as a project band) because he preferred this style the most all the time. By the time, due to many musical and personal reasons, he wanted to end the Neochrome story which happened in 2007 by him (while the past members continued the band under the name of Neochrome for a period against the agreement about using the name).
The quickly-formed new band got the name Angerseed. This name had also turned up earlier in 2001 as a name idea but later it became just a song title. Angerseed's first solid line-up was the following: Peter D. Maniak (vocals), Antal Zsuga (bass), Attila Szendi (drums), Szabolcs Gál (guitar). The band assigned Death Metal as their genre which is straightforward but doesn't ignore even some more complex solutions. Its abstract and visionary lyrics turn against the world which keeps going by a really wrong way. The lyrics usually use the inner suffering viewpoint of a person and show the confusion and the frustrated disappointment which is generated by the progression of losing the real values of our society.
During the first 8-9 months the first songs were composed but before the first live show, Attila Szendi left the band. After a short break Zsolt M. took his role and in the end of 2008 they managed to play live. From 2009 the band started to perform live with a huge fervor, though the benefit of Maniak's past helped a lot, it was hard to start and make the band well-known. The first period was really a struggle and brought another member replacement in the beginning of 2009: Szabolcs Gál left the band due to personal problems and Levente D. took his place. Before this replacement, one of the band's bigger live shows was recorded by a mobile studio.
Line up changes and the first materials (2009-2013)
In the Summer of 2009 the guitarist left and he was replaced by two guitarists Péter F. and Viktor Nagy, Viktor is still part of the band. In the beginning of 2010 the band's first EP entitled ’The First Seeds (Before the Reign of Anger)’ was released. The EP contained 5 songs which were based on the recorded live show in 2009 and later got its final form in a studio. In the beginning of 2010 Antal Zsuga left the band and he was replaced by Zoltán F. In the summer of 2010, Zsolt M. (drums) got out of the band for the first time and he was replaced with Tas F.. Thanks to the continuous live shows, Angerseed could perform at more serious places and the fans started to gather around the band. In the beginning of 2011 the band discarded Zoltán F. (bass) and Csaba B. took his place.
In the Autumn of 2011 the recordings of ’Dawn of a New Kingdom’ EP have started in a small studio near Debrecen. By the end of the year Tas F. has been kicked out of the band because of his human defects. In April 2012 when the EP was released Zsolt M. - who got a second chance from the band - replaced him back at the drums. Successful concerts came again and the band performed with more and more foreign bands in Hungary and abroad - by the way the pursuit for abroad expansion is one of the main goals of the band from the beginnings. But Zsolt M. (drums) didn't quite take the opportunity for the second time so in the Autumn 2012 the band discarded him due to his personal and musical incompetence. After this, Angerseed performed with a session drummer for some live shows. During this time ’Dawn of a New Kingdom’ EP got appreciative critics from many sources and by this the band made itself well-known between the Death Metal fans in Hungary and abroad.
In the beginning of 2013 the band asked Attila Szendi – who was the first drummer of Angerseed – to join the band again. Attila accepted the request as a session member, though the mutual work was planned for a shorter period, he stayed with the band until the end of 2015. 6 months after his rejoining, Angerseed started to compose the base of the new songs whose progression was really slow due to playing a lot of live shows. In this year Angerseed performed at serious festivals abroad, in many cases with legendary bands and much more attention was given to the band by the inland scene. Their self-organized Festival called ’Full Of Anger Underground Metal Fesztivál’ - available from 2009 - has serious interest and recognition. This event is kept twice a year in the band's hometown Debrecen and has been organized twice in the capital Budapest.
On the way to the first album (2013-2016)
The years 2013 and 2014 were about playing many live shows and composing new songs. In the Summer of 2014, Angerseed achieved a shared first place on a Talent Show which was organized by the Hungarian ’Rockmaraton Fesztivál’ and the Hungarian ’HammerWorld Magazine’, they also managed to win valuable prizes which ones got visual form in 2016 as the band's debut album entitled ’The Proclamation’.
In the Spring of 2015 the band had a short break and recorded the first demo version of the upcoming first full-length album. During the workflow the organization of live shows was started and the band had more gigs in Hungary and also abroad in 2015. At the Summer shows, Attila Szendi helped the band but also another session drummer appeared: Eugene Ryabchenko. He is a young, incredibly talented and professional drummer who played a show with Angerseed in the Summer 2015 then stayed with the band from the release of the album till the summer of 2017. The main recording has started in the Autumn with Eugene's drumming and the mentioned album became available in January 2016 at the ’Death By Metal Festival Vol. 2.’ in Budapest.
2016 - present
Before the recordings Péter F. (guitar) and Csaba B. (bass) have left the band but they participated in the recordings and in the confirmed live shows ’till January 2016. Two brothers have joined the band: Attila Mészáros (guitar) and Márk Mészáros (bass). Meanwhile ’The Proclamation’ got already plenty of enthusiastic recognitions by the Metal mediums far and near because the result became a non-typical Death Metal stuff but an interesting and various musical creation. It was simply the most earnest and completed work of the band back then. Angerseed spent the whole year of 2016 and 2017 by promoting the album as well as gigging solidly. Meanwhile, guitarist Attila Mészáros left but this fact didn't break the impetus of the band, and they continued with four members. In the autumn 2017 the band found its own drummer after so many years of searching at last in the name of József Gáva.
In 2018 songwriting started for the new EP titled 'Forever Burning Hatred'. The EP (with the length equivalent to an LP) will be available in November, 2019 under the label of Metal Ör Die Records, and will open a whole new chapter in the band's existence.[1] Before the anniversary tour in the fall of 2018, Márk Mészáros switched from bass to guitar and the 'X. Anniversary Tour 2018' was played with a session bassist called Viktor Somoskői. After the tour Attila Dudás has joined the band as bassist in the spring of 2019.
The tour celebrating the band's first 10 years went down successfully. The last concert was played in the Főnix hall of Debrecen as the opening band of the also Debrecen band Tankcsapda, thus Angerseed becoming the first band to play on the stage of an arena this big from within the Hungarian death metal groups.
About the band
The band has a lot of plans for the upcoming years. They'd like to gig more and more and get a stronger hold abroad as well as releasing albums more frequently. Their solid presence, serious attitude, intense live performances and stage presence, as well as their stage sceneries have convinced a lot of fans and professionals.
Angerseed have had a lot of concerts in their past 10 years, even playing with worldwide acknowledged and recognized bands. Just to mention a few: Behemoth, Asphyx, Morgoth, Tankard, Krisiun, Mayhem, Decapitated, Hate, Cryptopsy, Borknagar, Anaal Nathrakh, SepticFlesh, Cattle Decapitation, Amon Amarth, Kataklysm, Arch Enemy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Amorphis, Unleashed, Destruction, Dying Fetus. The band already has a remarkable fanbase which combined with the new music might be a significant basis for a more serious foreign challenge.
