It is registered as a charitable organisation in London, England.[2] It is funded by donations and lotteries.

Programs[edit]

Investigations and Intelligence[edit]

Animal Protection Services undertakes intelligence-driven investigations, with the goal of presenting verifiable and credible first-hand evidence of animal welfare criminality in court. Animal Protection Services has an intelligence development unit that highlights high-level suspects through intelligence analysis and by sharing intelligence with operational partners.

Animal Protection Services appears to use undercover investigations as an investigative tool.[3][4]

Private prosecution and litigation[edit]

Animal Protection Services conducts private prosecutions and criminal litigation. The charity's executive director has prosecuted on behalf of the charity[5], or it may retain outside counsel for representation. The charity has the right to prosecute using powers contained within section 6(1) of the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985.[6] Animal Protection Services also conducts confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 to strip assets from defendants.[7]

History[edit]

Animal Protection Services is led by Jacob Lloyd[8][9]. The charity was registered on 18 November 2019 and has a mission of promoting humane behaviour towards animals and preventing and supressing cruelty to animals. The charity was the first to bring a private prosecution for theft of dogs from an animal rescue charity.[10][11]
