Ankit, Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ankit (Hindi: अंकित; born 7 August 1983) is an artist,[1][2][3][4] environmentalist[5][6][7] and the current pretender to the title of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir.[8][9][10][11]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Ankit was born in New Delhi to the royal family of Kashmir.[12][13] His father Kunwar (Prince) Bhim Singh is the founder and leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party.[14][15] His mother Jay Mala is a Goud Saraswat Brahmin of Afghan origin and co-founder of the Panthers Party.[16][17][18] The Brahmins ruled Afghanistan as Hindu Shahis (Kings) in the past.[19] His parents founded the Panthers Party in 1982 to fight against Islamic terrorism in Kashmir.[20][18]

Ankit attended the Bishop Cotton School, Shimla[21] prior to being sent to the UK in 1989 to study at the American Community School in Cobham, Surrey.[22] He then trained at the California Institute of the Arts[23][3] and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.[24][12]

Pretender to the throne of Kashmir[edit]

Ankit seized to be an Indian citizen in 2009 when he naturalised as a British citizen,[16][8] as India does not permit dual nationality. Thus as a member of the royal family, he was no longer subject to the 26th Constitutional Amendment of India which bars Indian citizens from holding royal titles.[25]

In March 2015, at the Hotel Cafe Royal, London, Ankit claimed title of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir,[5][25] subject to an ongoing armed conflict since October 1947 between the nuclear armed forces of India, Pakistan and China, as well as multiple terrorist groups including the Al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Taiba.[25][12]

Personal Life[edit]

He used to live in a house owned by the Sultan of Brunei on Green Street, Mayfair.[18] In 2017, Ankit was engaged in Green Park, London to marry the daughter of a Russian Air Force jet pilot.[26]
