Annika Hinze is a New Zealand computer scientist. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Waikato and is head of the research group information systems and databases (ISDB).[1] Annika Hinze received her PhD in 2003 from the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany.[2] She graduated in Mathematics at the Technische Universität Berlin in 1996.[3]

Research[edit]

Her main research interests are location-based systems, semantic analysis, complex event processing, context-aware systems, and digital libraries.[4] In 2015, she started projects on citizen science and citizen engagement. In collaboration with the Waikato Regional Council she led a project for developing a mobile app allowing citizens to report sightings of koi carps in the rivers of Waikato. The app was presented at the NZ Agricultural Fieldays in 2016. Koi carps are a pest fish in Waikato because they disrupt the silt, destroy plants, and cause erosion.[5]
