Anshul Kaushik, also known as History Hunter is a prominent collector from India. He has a vast collection of Artifacts, War Medals, Hand Made Postcards, Fossils, Stamps, Historical Letters, Postal History, Rare engravings, and autographs. His collection of newspapers is one of its kind and covers all important events in Indian History. He only collects memorabilia from British India Pre-independence period.[1]
Biography
Anshul received his Master's in Engineering from Bits Pilani and started his career as an executive in Honda Motors India - Information Technology Department. With over all experience of more than 15 years in automotive and power sectors, he started independent consulting in 2016. His love for history is very old, as he has inherited many items from his grandfather, who was a principal in Government school. In his school time, history was one of his favorite subjects.
Historic Collection
Anshul has a slice of the Moon in his collection on one end and a titanic coal recovered from the depth of the Atlantic at the other. The salient feature of his collection is that he collects items from Indian History which are strictly limited to before the independence period or items that have a great impact in shaping Today's India.[2]
Collected Items
Over a period of 14 years, he was able to put together one of the biggest and authentic collections of items from the British India period, which includes Newspapers, War Medals, Historic Letters, Artefacts, Death Certificates, Stamps, Artefacts, Etchings, British India Postcards, Magazines, Stamp Papers, Postal History, Movie Posters, Match Box, Mill Labels, Antiquarian Books, Rare Reports, Manuscripts, Royal Games, etc.
Newspapers
Kaushik’s collection of newspapers is among his most prized items. Spanning between 1758 and 1991, the collection covers major landmark moments such as Tipu Sultan’s war account, the first flight to India, Delhi’s coronations, accounts of the revolt of 1857, India’s independence, the partition of India, the end of World War 2, Bhagat Singh bombing the Delhi assembly, Inauguration of Delhi, President Rajendra Prasad’s swearing-in ceremony, deaths of Indira Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru, and more.[3]
Stamps Collection
Kaushik was able to complete his grandfather's album of stamps and is in possession of 120 years of Postal History of India. His stamp Album has a collection of stamps from 1860-1990 sorted year wise.
Historic Letters & Postal History
Kaushik also owns a few handwritten letter communications between King Wajid Ali Shah – the king of Oudh, his wife Khas Mahal, and son Fardoon, with their seals and signatures dated 1881. He also has a handwritten letter from a private during the Third Anglo Maratha War about the information of Pindari Leader Karim. Apart from this, he has a vast collection of postcards which include Meghdoot postcards. One postcard that stands out was sent by English mountaineer and filmmaker John Baptist Lucius Noel to himself from the Everest base camp during his 1924 Mount Everest expedition. Kaushik also has an impressive collection of first day covers which includes the first flight to India (1948), Indian Everest expedition cover (1965), the first Indian man on the moon (1969), and an Independence[4]
Mughal Ganjifa
He is one of the private collectors who owns a set of 56 cards from the Mughal Era.
War Medals
The collection includes war medals from various important points in history. While some are from World War 2, such as the Defence Medal, Burma Star, and the Africa Star, others are service medals from World War 1 and from Indian Independence.
