Established in June 2015, Anthea Montessori House of Children is a pre-school and a day care center for children between the age group of 2 and 6 years. Located in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, Telangana, the school focuses on child-centric pedagogy.

History[edit]

Founders Chitra Raghunathan and Anupama Rao observed a deep growth in their respective children who studied at Montessori. The mental and physical development in their children due to the Montessori education inspired the duo to set up Anthea Montessori in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Admissions[edit]

Admissions are open round the year. While there is a restriction on the age group of the children to be admitted in Anthea Montessori, the age limit can be relaxed in certain special circumstances.

Faculty[edit]

The Montessori school has a trained faculty that is certified by American Montessori Society. The founders, Chitra and Anupama, of the school form the crucial part of the faculty. Their background in teaching lends them the understanding into children’s requirement.

Chitra Raghunathan is a diploma holder in Early Childhood from American Montessori Society (AMS) via Princeton Centre for Teacher Education. She has worked as a lead teacher at Raritan Valley Montessori School in Bridgewater NJ / USA. Prior to her foray in education she worked in various institutions such as Harvard Medical School in the field of Molecular and Cellular biology.

Anupama Rao, a holder of a bachelor's degree in Child Psychology, has worked as an Assistant Directress for two years in a self-learning Montessori preschool. She has the distinction of having been selected in the first batch of women trainee pilots in the Indian Air Force in 1992. Having dabbled in many roles in different fields, she feels that she grew professionally but has grown as a person only after being among children. She feels that she has finally found her “true calling”.

Programs[edit]

There are multiple program options available for parents to choose from. The ‘Half Day’ program which starts at 8:30 am and goes on till noon offers a traditional Montessori curriculum. The ‘Day Care’ program which begins at 12:30 pm and ends at 5.30 pm is designed to offer plenty of structured activities including phonics and social studies to children. The third program 'Flexi Care' is fashioned to provide the parents with the flexibility in choosing the program’s closing time. The session starts at 12:30 pm and can conclude at any chosen time before 5:30 pm.

Student Activities[edit]

The school follows a true Montessori curriculum where the children are free to choose their own work. The works are carefully placed on the shelf according the children’s capacities by the teacher based on diligent observation. Everything is catered towards setting the child up for success. The school follows a cosmic curriculum which includes Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Science, Geography, Art and Music. This holistic curriculum has inspired many leaders such as Larry Page of Google Inc and Jeff Bezos of Amazon Inc who credit their success to their early years of Montessori education.

An important classroom activity includes older children guiding the younger ones. The subjects taught are interwoven and different children study any number of different areas, moving on only when they are thorough. Children are free to move anywhere in the classroom and are not restricted to their respective desks.

Facilities[edit]

Spread across an area of 1,100 square yards, the school premises offer environmental-friendly surroundings to the children. It includes large grounds, with separate spacious play areas. There is also a gardening area for the children to get well-versed with the basics of gardening. The classrooms are spacious, bright and well-ventilated.
