Anthony P. Davis is a British chemist and Professor of supramolecular chemistry at the University of Bristol. He is known for his work in synthetic lectins and carbohydrate recognition, particularly for the development of glucose-binding molecules that have potential applications in the treatment of diabetes.
Education and career
Davis studied chemistry at Oxford University, where he obtained his BA and DPhil degrees. After postdoctoral research in Strasbourg and Zurich, he began his independent academic career. He is currently a professor at the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol.
His research focuses on supramolecular chemistry, specifically the design and synthesis of receptors for carbohydrates.
Awards and honours
- 2025: Awarded the Royal Medal (Applied) by the Royal Society for "inventing a glucose-binding molecule with exceptional capabilities and working towards applications via start-up companies Ziylo and Carbometrics."[1]
- 2015: Haworth Memorial Lectureship (Royal Society of Chemistry)
