Antonela Roccuzzo (Born 26 February 1988) is an Argentine social media influencer and model.[1] She met Messi since her cousin Lucas Scaglia was best friends with Lionel Messi. She signed a modeling contract in 2016 and married Messi in 2017.[2]
Early Years
Antonela Roccuzzo was born on 26 February 1988, in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. Antonela was raised along with her two sisters, Carla and Paula Roccuzzo. Her father, Jose Roccuzzo, was a businessman and her mother, Patricia Blanko, was a homemaker.[3]
She has known Messi since she was five years old, as her cousin, Lucas Scaglia, was a childhood friend of his. She attended Universidad del Rosario, studying Dentistry before switching to social communication, then later moving to Barcelona to join Messi.
Messi, on the other hand, was born a year before her, where he developed his talent in Newell’s Old Boys’ club, one of the famous football clubs in Rosario. Being raised in the same neighborhood, Messi became friends with one of Antonella’s cousins, who in turn introduced him to Roccuzzo. All this happened before Messi became a football star.[4]
Prior to Antonella’s enrollment into the University of Argentina to study Odontology in order to actualize her dreams of becoming a dentist, Antonella completed her basic education from one of the local high schools of Rosario.[5]
Personal Life
Antonela Roccuzzo had stayed in touch after he left to play football in Spain at 13, and they eventually started a romantic relationship in the late 2000s.[6]
Roccuzzo moved to Barcelona, where the couple had two sons, Thiago, and Mateo, but they usually like to visit their native Rosario. It is not known how long the pair have been in a relationship for, but they went public with their relationship in 2008. The bond between the couple was believed to have strengthened in 2007 when Messi flew back to Rosario to comfort Antonela after the death of her boyfriend. The pair were widely identified as a couple by the world's media before the 2010 World Cup. They both have the Roman numerals XXX-VI-XVII tattooed onto their ring fingers. That stands for 30-6-17, the day when they got married. Leo and Antonela have three sons; Thiago, born on 2 November 2012, Mateo, who was born on 11 September 2015, and Ciro, born in 2018.[7]
Marriage
In his hometown of Rosario, a host of footballing greats, past and present – including Xavi Hernández, Carles Puyol, Cesc Fàbregas, and Sergio Agüero – gathered for the marriage of the multiple Ballon D'or winner to the mother of their children.[8]
About 250 guests attended the wedding of Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo at a luxury hotel, including Messi's Barcelona teammates Neymar Júnior, Luis Suárez, and Gerard Piqué, who were joined by his wife, with Colombian pop star Shakira also joining as well. About 150 journalists were allowed to cover the event but had no direct access to the ceremony or the party afterwards.[9]
The public was not allowed access to the hotel where the wedding took place, instead watching on big screens in other parts of the city.[10]
