Anurag Dixit /ˈdɪxɪt/ is an Indian singer, songwriter, composer, producer and music educator. Anurag Dixit’s musical style is ‘Indian pop ’ which has a mix of pop, Rock, folk and dance music. His songs include ‘Tum, ‘Tumhe dekha toh, ‘Khatti Meethi, ‘Laakhon Aasman, ‘Khalbali’ etc. Anurag Dixit is also a co-founder of a music organization called Musicology.
Early Life[edit]
Early days: A self taught musician, Anurag started composing and writing songs at an early age. His elder brother Anupam Dixit helped him with the technical aspects of music recording and mixing. Anurag recorded a home demo called ‘Voyages’ featuring English pop-rock songs.[2] After being advised by an industry veteran, Anurag switched to hindi pop songs. Anurag recorded another home demo named ‘Jhoomein’ featuring hindi pop songs.[3] This album was also recorded and mixed by his brother Anupam. Both his independent demos were liked by industry professionals who further encouraged Anurag to pursue a career in music.
Professional Work[edit]
Anurag’s big break came when veteran industry producer Ashish Manchanda liked his musical work and produced his album ‘Sounds Gr8!![1]’ Released on Times music in April 2011, ‘Sounds Gr8!!’ featured ten songs written, composed, sung and co-arranged by Anurag. Ashish Manchanda invited some of the finest industry musicians to play on the album, most notably renowned drummer, arranger and producer Ranjit Barot.[2] The opening song ‘Dil hi dil mein’ was featured in MTV Roots. Songs ‘Khatti Meethi’, ‘Mere sapney’ and ‘Kehna tha tumse’ appeared on MTV-Indies. Eight songs from ‘Sounds Gr8!!’ were in ArtistAloud Top 10 at different time periodss. Songs including ‘Dil hi dil mein’ from ‘Sounds gr8!!’ received nominations for ArtistAloud awards.[3]
In 2014, Anurag released his next album ‘Laakhon Aasman’[4] featuring 11 songs all written, composed, sung and arranged by Anurag himself. Song ‘Baatein ho chuki’ from the album featured a vocal duet with Pakistani singer Faiza Mujahid. Released on Universal music,[5] ‘Laakhon Aasman’ brought Anurag greater acclaim for his work. The album was mixed by industry veteran K.J. Singh and mastered by UK mastering engineer Donal Whelan. Songs ‘Khatti Meethi’ and ‘Tumhe bhool na payenge’ appeared on MTV-Indies.
For ‘Laakhon Aasman’ Anurag won the ‘Best male singer of the year’[6] award in ArtistAloud Awards 2015. Six songs from ‘Laakhon Aasman’ were in ArtistAloud Top 10 at different time intervals. Anurag also won ‘Best musician of the year’ award at the ‘Make in India conclave awards 2015’.[7]
