Apollo Justice, known as Housuke Odoroki (Japanese: 王泥喜 法介, Hepburn: Odoroki Housuke) in the original Japanese language versions, is a fictional defense attorney in Capcom's Ace Attorney video game series. Apollo is featured as the titular protagonist of the fourth game, as well as a protagonist in the fifth and sixth main Ace Attorney games.

Conception and creation

Shu Takumi had originally wanted the Ace Attorney series to end with the third game, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Trials and Tribulations, as he felt that Phoenix Wright's story had been fully explored. When a fourth game was decided, Takumi wanted a new main character and story. Justice's Japanese name, Housuke, means "boy of law," and his surname, Odoroki, translates roughly as "surprising man of law." In English versions, his name references the Roman god Apollo and the concept of justice.[2]

Characteristics

Apollo is a rookie defense attorney who accepts murder cases, attempting to exonerate his clients despite seemingly incontrovertible evidence. Described as "brash and insecure," he uses a stress-relieving routine called "Chords of Steel." Apollo has a hereditary condition that allows him to read body language, aiding his detective skills.

Appearances

Ace Attorney video games

In Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Apollo defends Phoenix Wright and uncovers the true perpetrator, his mentor Kristoph Gavin. He joins the Wright Anything Agency and faces rival prosecutor Klavier Gavin. After the game's events, it is revealed that Trucy Wright is Apollo's half-sister.[3]

In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Dual Destinies, Apollo investigates a murder and rejoins the agency after Phoenix accuses a spy of the crime.

In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Spirit of Justice, Apollo faces Nahyuta Sahdmadhi, revealed to be his adoptive brother. He becomes instrumental in nullifying the Defense Culpability Act in Khura'in and sets up his own law firm, the Justice Law Offices.
