Apoorva Mehta
Apoorva Mehta is the founder and CEO of online grocery delivery company Instacart.[1][2][3]
Early life[edit]
Apoorva was born in India and moved with his family to Canada in 2000.[4][5] He studied engineering at the University of Waterloo.[6]
Career[edit]
Apoorva previously worked at Blackberry, Qualcomm, and then Amazon as a supply chain engineer, where he developed fulfillment systems to move packages from Amazon’s warehouses to customers’ homes.[1][7][8] In 2010, Apoorva left Amazon to start his own company.[9][1][10] Before founding Instacart, Apoorva started more than 20 companies.[11][1][12]
Apoorva founded Instacart in 2012[13] when he was 25 years old.[10] He was a participant in Y Combinator’s Summer 2012 batch.[14] Apoorva was initially rejected because his application was 2 months late[15], but he used his own app to deliver a six pack of beer to one of the partners at Y-Combinator’s headquarters after being rejected.[9] That led to him being asked in for a meeting where he explained Instacart to four YC partners; after the meeting, they extended an invitation, which Apoorva accepted.[16] Instacart was originally launched in San Francisco and since then has expanded throughout the U.S. and Canada.[17][18][19]
