appsplit is a San Diego, California based company founded in 2010 that provides an online platform to raise funds, find freelancers, or sell apps via crowdsourcing.[1] It allows app developers to post a campaign for their apps, explain the purpose of their apps, and seek financial help to complete the development of the apps. [2]

History

appsplit was created by Hussein Yahfoufi, who was looking for an exit strategy for an app he had created. Initially, appsplit was a platform that only allowed you to sell apps. With the rise of crowdsourcing, appsplit was enhanced to cater for crowdfunding as well. [3]

Campaign types

appsplit has multiple campaign types on its platform:

  • All-or-None Funding: similar to other crowdfunding platforms. The campaign owner sets a funding goal and only receives the funds if the goal is met or exceeded.
  • Open Funding: similar to the All-or-None funding campaign; however, the campaign owner receives the funds even if the goal is not reached.
  • Sell: allows you to sell your app or app idea.
  • Develop: can be used to find a freelancer to work on the app with you.

[4]

appsplit currently charges a 10% fee of total funds raised for open campaigns and a 5% fee for all-or-none campaigns.[5]
