Apricot is an English multi-channel women's Indie clothing and accessories company.

History, growth and locations[edit]

Apricot was established by Philip Chaimo and Sophia Ciampa in 2007, the brand focuses on affordable women's retail with prints from across the world.[1] The brand's items are designed in London.[2][non-primary source needed]

Apricot started expanding in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In November 2010 the company opened its 10th and Flagship store at London's Westfield shopping centre. The store is 1,200 sq ft.[3] Within the United Kingdom and Ireland, as of August 2021 Apricot has 15 stores and over 400 concessions within host shops, including Debenhams, New look, House of Fraser and Outfit.[2][non-primary source needed][1] Apricot's 15th store opened during the COVID-19 pandemic in Summer 2020, the large 2,500 sq ft store is located at intu Merry Hill in the West Midlands.[4][better source needed]

The brand is expanding globally, with over 800 concessions and stockists globally, including in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Canada and United States.[2][non-primary source needed] Apricots first Northern America store set to open in 2019 was in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Ahead of the opening Philip Chaimo said “Our product has been well received so far in North America giving us the confidence to go for a standalone USA store”.[5]

The company has faced some financial difficulties, in late 2020 it launched a company voluntary agreement (CVA) after unsuccessful rent negotiations with landlords. In January 2021, 13 of Apricots UK stores changed to a turnover rent model lease agreement.[6][7]

Apricot made The Sunday Times Top 200 Export list for 6 consecutive years.[2]
