Apurva Dalal (born March 1970) is the Head of India Engineering Team at Uber Technologies. He has worked with companies like Google, eBay, UrbanLadder, etc. [1]
Early life and career
Apurva was born in Mumbai, India in a Gujarati family. He completed his higher secondary education from Hansraj Morarji Public School, Mumbai in 1985.
All of his family has been running a business passed down from generation to generation. Not surprisingly, everyone, including his grandmother, expected him to become a businessman, just like the rest of his family. Apurva, however, decided to buck the trend and study engineering.[2][3]
As a student, science and mathematics were his strongest subjects. Most of his family was unhappy with his decision. However, his father – who had worked first and then started a business – backed him.[4][5]
Apurva has been Head of India Engineering Team at Uber Technologies, Inc since July 2016. He is an investor/adviser at Snapshopr. He served as Chief Technology Officer at Urban Ladder Home Decor Solutions Private Limited in July 2015. He has been the Vice President of Engineering, Head of Engineering and Vice President at Komli Media, Inc. Mr. Dalal has more than 20 years of experience in building software products in areas of e-commerce, search and enterprise cloud computing and has worked with companies such as Komli, Google, eBay, WebMD, Compuware, IBM, Citicorp, and CMC. He was also the head of engineering at Google, Hyderabad. Prior to Google, he spent five years at eBay leading software engineering efforts for search and high performance computing divisions. Mr. Dalal is an MBA from University of Dallas and B.Tech in Computer Science from Mumbai University.[6]
