Araya is a 2016 first-person horror-themed adventure game developed by MAD Virtual Reality Studio for Microsoft Windows.[1][2]
Plot[edit]
The story unfolds through the perspectives of three characters: Marisa, Araya's best friend; Rama, the hospital's security guard; and Boon, who enters the hospital to settle a gambling debt. Players navigate a derelict hospital in Bangkok to unravel Araya's mysterious murder.[3]
Araya, bipolar and misanthropic, found solace in her friendship with Marisa. Despite Marisa's warnings, Araya entered a relationship with playboy Sorn, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy and conflict. Sorn gave Araya a lethal "sleeping" pill, leading to her death. He then staged her suicide in the hospital's parking garage, where he died accidentally.
A year later, Marisa receives a text from Araya and investigates the abandoned hospital. She is chased by Jit, a former hospital employee, and is knocked unconscious.
Rama, the security guard, wakes up and patrols the hospital. He spots Jit and the unconscious Marisa, but Jit chases him. Rama calls for help and meets his boss, who is later ambushed by Jit. Rama escapes but is knocked out by a falling shelf.
Boon enters the hospital to complete a task for a gang. He encounters various ghosts, including a gigantic "Preta." Later, Boon meets Rama, who instructs him to escape while he helps Marisa.
Marisa reawakens and is guided by Araya's spirit. She falls down an elevator shaft and finds Araya's corpse in a ritual chamber. Marisa faints and awakens in a nightmarish maze, hearing Araya and Sorn arguing. Marisa then finds Araya's vengeful spirit.
Rama arrives at the ritual chamber and frees Araya's spirit by removing a ritual nail. Jit attacks Rama, who overpowers him. The player can choose to kill or spare Jit. Rama's boss reappears, blaming him for ruining their plan. Araya's ghost attacks the boss, causing a fire that engulfs the hospital.
Marisa escapes the burning hospital. Depending on the player's choice, either Jit or Rama helps defeat Araya's spirit. All three main characters escape as the hospital burns.
Marisa wakes up outside under police care. Rama watches the burning hospital, and Boon explains the events to a policeman. If spared, Jit is seen outside. As Marisa looks at the blaze, an unknown person reaches for her hand.
