Archipel (channel)
Archipel is a channel creating documentaries about Japanese artists and Japan’s culture. Its focus is to shed light on Japanese creative minds, letting the subjects tell their own stories and open the door to their creative process and universe. The Archipel channel is managed by a team of two foreigners based in Tokyo.
Background
The Archipel channel was founded in 2018, after having started as toco toco, a series where artists introduce places in Japan that inspire them. The creators mention they decided to evolve to becoming Archipel as they wanted to create more diverse content, after they launched a new series named New Territories, following a French artist in Japan. After their rebranding, Archipel launched multiple documentaries, creator portraits and series concepts that cover a large spectrum of Japan's pop culture (video games, mangaka, animation), in addition to including topics such as food, board games or the recent boom of virtual YouTubers in Japan.
As of October 2020, the Archipel channel currently counts more than 199,000 subscribers on YouTube with some of its content being available with subtitles in more than 6 languages.
