The plot centers on a colossal blast of heavily chilled mesosphere air spreading over the Earth after a solar eclipse. As Hobart is hit by a cold front with temperatures below −70°C, causing instantaneous deaths, physicist Jack Tate (Michael Shanks) tries to find a solution while protecting his family.

The film was shot in Tasmania and Ottawa, Canada. The executive producer is Antony I. Ginnane, whose venture IFM/Filmways handled the film release in Australia, New Zealand, and Georgia.
