Arctic Blast is a 2010 Australian-Canadian disaster film directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring Michael Shanks, Alan Andrews, Alexandra Davies, and Saskia Hampele. Filmed in Hobart, its world premiere took place at the 2010 Canadian Film Festival in Sydney.

Premise[edit]

The plot centers on a colossal blast of heavily chilled mesosphere air spreading over the Earth after a solar eclipse. This, combined with environmental pollution, causes a hole in the ozone layer, threatening to engulf the world in ice. As Hobart is hit by a cold front with temperatures below −70°C, causing instantaneous deaths, physicist Jack Tate (Michael Shanks) tries to find a solution while protecting his family.

Cast[edit]

  • Michael Shanks as Jack Tate
  • Alexandra Davies as Emma Tate
  • Indiana Evans as Naomi Tate
  • Alan Andrews as Harold
  • Saskia Hampele as Dr. Zoe Quinn

Production[edit]

The film was shot in Tasmania and Ottawa, Canada. The executive producer is Antony I. Ginnane, whose venture IFM/Filmways handled the film release in Australia, New Zealand, and Georgia.
