Aretha Henry
Aretha Lafayette Henry (born August 1, 1982)[1][2] is an American Singer-Songwriter [3][4] born in Jackson, Mississippi.[5]
Career[edit]
Aretha Henry released her debut album, Beautiful, on June 26, 2010.[6] The album was followed in 2011 by a compilation album titled The Best of Aretha Henry-Jones. It included singles Magic and In My Own World along with other fan favorites from her debut album.[7][8]
On August 1, 2012, Henry released her sophomore album Enchanted.[9][10][11]
The album was well-received [12] with the single, Captive, peaking at #23 on the Top 40 Urban/Hip-hop/Latin Charts.[13][14] The single, Magic appeared on Butterflies Radio's top 20 songs for June 2013 charts. [15]
Henry re-released her debut album, Beautiful, on April 15, 2013. In May 2013, the album appeared at #5 on Amazon's List of Hot New Releases.[16]
The song Stars from the Beautiful album has appeared on both the Top 50 Crossover and Top 50 Indie Urban/Hip-hop/Latin charts numerous times since its re-release.[17][18][19]
On April 28, 2014, Aretha Henry released the first single from her third studio album Superhuman titled Masterpiece. The single was featured by Digital Trends on May 7, 2014 as one of the best new releases.[20] Superhuman was released on September 18, 2014.[21][22] Pop track, Party, from the Superhuman album appeared several times on the Top 50 Crossover Charts.[23]
Henry announced the start of her own record label, Oz Avenue Entertainment, in June 2015. She also announced plans to release her second compilation album, The Best of Aretha Henry-Jones Volume 2 on the new label.[24]
On April 1, 2018, Henry released the first single, Love Language, from her fourth studio album, Mrs. Jones. It peaked at #9 on the Urban/Hip-Hop/Latin charts and at #4 on the Indie Charts.[25] Aretha Henry released a self-titled EP on March 10, 2019, which included three new singles.[26] Her fourth studio album, Mrs. Jones, was released on May 16, 2019.[27][28] The album was featured on The Urban Music Scene website and was received positively with music review site, Sleeping Bag Studios, stating that "...Aretha is focused, determined, hungry, and passionate…she’s bringing her A-game to this record, 100%, no doubt."[29][30]
[31] In July 2019, Aretha Henry was nominated for Female R&B Artist of the Year in the Mississippi Hip Hop Culture Awards.[32][33][34] Also, A Life that's Mine, from the Mrs. Jones album, was featured on the music licensing website, Songtradr.[35] In January 2022, she released a new single titled Lovely. It peaked at #7 on the Indie Urban/Hip Hop/ Latin charts. [36][37] Aretha Henry released the single, Full Gusto, in September 2022. She released an R&B single titled Risk it all in May 2023. [38][39] In the summer of 2024, Aretha Henry released her first Southern Soul song, Pink Boots. [40]
Personal Life[edit]
Aretha Henry graduated from Velma Jackson High School in May 2000. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in May 2020. [41] Aretha Henry is married to Sound Engineer Kevin "KJ" Jones. [42] She has two biological children and three step-children.
