Arjun Singh Panesar (born 1984) is an English computer programmer, entrepreneur, author and founder of Diabetes Digital Media.[1]
Early life[edit]
Panesar attended Imperial College London from 2002 to 2006, studying for a Master of Engineering in Computing and Artificial Intelligence, graduating with first-class honours.[2][3]
Career[edit]
Panesar founded Diabetes.co.uk whilst at university after his grandfather was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was unable to find information on how to control his condition.[4] The website is the world’s largest diabetes support community by membership.[5]
After the launch of the Low Carb Program in 2015,[6] Panesar was recognised by the National Business Awards in 2016, winning the inaugural Positive Social Impact of The Year award[7] and was selected as a The Sunday Times Maserati Top 100 Disruptor for disrupting healthcare.[8] In 2018, Panesar led Diabetes Digital Media to the award for Innovation at the UK Business Awards,[9] UK Content Awards for Best Technology Platform[10] and Diabetes Professional Care Award for Most Influential Technology Company of the Year.[11]
In 2019, Panesar won the award for Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year at the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards and the Investor Allstars Tech4Good Award.[12][13]
Panesar's company Diabetes Digital Media was selected as part of the NHS Innovation Accelerator in March 2019 and DigitalHealth.London Accelerator in September 2019.[6][14][15] Panesar and Charlotte Summers (COO of DDM) had significant problems in getting their app approved by the UK National Health Service (NHS).[16] Although it has been approved for the Accelerator, it was still not prescribed by any of the 190 NHS clinical commissioning groups as of December 2018.[16]
Panesar published his first book Machine Learning and AI in Healthcare: Big data for improved health outcomes in Spring 2019.[17]
Forbes wrote of the Low Carb Program:
After undergoing rigorous testing, the programme was accepted onto the NHS Apps Library last month. Meanwhile, a new partnership with Ascensia Diabetes Care will facilitate uptake among GPs, potentially offering thousands of patients access to the technology on the NHS.[18]
