Arlene Quinones-Perez (1980), is a 26-year-old Councilwoman in Clinton, New Jersey, a town in Hunterdon County. She is the youngest member of the Clinton Town Council and is currently the only Hispanic woman serving in elected office in Hunterdon County.

Biography[edit]

Quiñones-Perez grew up in Somerset County and is currently a resident of Bethlehem Township.

Quinones-Perez was elected to the Hunterdon County Democratic Committee as Chairwoman in 2006. Quiñones-Perez is the first ever Latina and the first Latina woman to hold the position of County Chairwoman in the State of New Jersey. Quinones-Perez is currently the Membership Secretary at the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Women in the Judiciary and served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey. She is also the founder and former President of the Clinton non-profit Emergency Services Foundation.[1] On a state level, she was Chairwoman of the Democratic Task Force of the State Women’s Political Caucus and a member of the Hispanic Task Force of the state Democratic Committee.

Quinones-Perez has been listed by Politics NJ as one of New Jersey’s top 50 rising stars [2] and has been featured in the Star-Ledger as a Person of Interest.[3] In 2009, Quinones-Perez received the National Association of Women Lawyers Award[4]

Quinones-Perez was an Associate with Kroll Heineman Carton, LLC a litigation firm where she focused on labor law and securities fraud.[5] Quinones-Perez was also an associate with Murphy Orlando, LLC and a registered lobbyist with Impact NJ, LLC, from 2011-2012.[6] She served as Judicial Term Law Clerk for the Honorable Michael A. Shipp, a United States District Judge.[7]

She is a graduate of Rutgers School of Law - Camden.[8] While in law school, she completed a judicial externship with Honorable Jose L. Linares, a United States District Judge.[9] After graduating, she served as a Law Clerk in the Appellate Division of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and a Judicial Term Law Clerk to Honorable Lisa P. Thornton in the Superior Court of New Jersey.[10] Quinones-Perez also has an extensive Government background which includes serving as Councilwoman in the Town of Clinton, where she was the youngest member of the Municipality’s governing body and the only Latina to serve as an elected official in Hunterdon County. She has also worked as an aide to former Governor Jim McGreevy and a senior aide to Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesea of New Jersey.

Personal life[edit]

Quinones-Perez and her family are members of St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Arlene Quinones-Perez and her husband, Jose have three children.
