Armaeur Hansen Research Institute
Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is an international biomedical research institute working on research and innovation into health and well-being in Ethiopia and beyond.[1][2][3] AHRI focuses on Tuberculosis, HIV, Malaria[4], COVID[5][6], Leprosy, Leishmaniasis research. In addition to Bioinformatics training and capacity building.
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health.[7]
The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician[8], Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).[9]
AHRI has published more than 900 papers in peer-reviewed journals so far. It has also produced several theses and dissertations from Ethiopian and international scholars in biomedical research. The institute has a network of national and international collaborators in peer-reviewed grant projects, clinical trial partnerships, capacity building activities and in training of MSc and PhD students.[10]

TBGEN Africa aims to map the distribution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis genotypes amongst genetically distinct human populations in four African countries. It compares paired host and bacterial genomes to identify loci that have co-evolved.[11]
