Armita Abbasi (Persian: آرمیتا عباسی; born 2001) is an Iranian protester who was kidnapped in Karaj, Iran by the Islamic Republic of Iran's forces amid Iran's nationwide protests.[1][2][3] After a week of psyhical and psychological torture including repeated sexual assault at the hands of the forces of the Islamic Republic, she was taken to the Imam Ali Hospital in Karaj and after her parents referred her, she was kidnapped again by the security forces and transferred to an unknown location.[4][5][6]
History
On 18 October 2022, Abbasi was transferred to Imam Ali Hospital in Karaj by the security forces of the Islamic Republic.[7][8] Her family was contacted from the hospital. Abbasi family said that their daughter has been missing for 8 days.[9][10] Before the family arrived, intelligence forces took her from the hospital to an unknown place.[11]
In the hospital, after the initial examination by doctors, clinical evidence including internal bleeding, symptoms of multiple anal rape and vaginal rupture were observed and recorded;[12] But the forces accompanying her insisted that it be written in the medical certificate that the rapes occurred before Abbasis's arrest. The Chief of Justice of Alborz province denied the rape report of Abbasi, but CNN has confirmed the rape of Abbasi in prison in an investigative report.[1][13]
After the concern of the citizens, including some artistic and sports figures, and the possibility that Abbasi was also killed, Alborz Chief Justice confirmed her arrest and announced that she was sent to the hospital due to intestinal problems, and after twenty-four hours, she was sent to Fardis prison again. Abbasi was arrested because two of the detainees identified him as an instigator and participant in the protests, and during the search of her house, several 1.5 liter bottles of gasoline, 10 Molotov cocktails were found ready and a number of lighters were discovered.[14][15]
According to some verified researches, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran uses sexual assault and rape as one of the means of repression and to pressure, frustrate, extort and obtain the right to remain silent from the victimized protestors.[16][17]
