Aromal Chekaver

Aromal Chekaver (or Chevaker)[1] was a legendary hero who is believed to have lived in northern Kerala, India, during the 16th century. He was a warrior figure of Vadakkan Pattukal (northern ballads) and the brother of Unniyarcha, another legendary warrior figure of the same ballads.

He was born in Puthooram Veedu, a Chekavar ezhava/Thiyya[2] family of Malabar (Northern Kerala).

Popular culture[edit]

Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, the Malayalam movie released in 1989, shows a different angle of the folklore, which is not true.
