Overview Artur Bordalo, who is also known as Bordalo II. Bordalo is famous for using street garbage to create animal sculptures to warn people about pollution and other types of endangered species. His work is considered “trash art”. He started spray painting street walls at the age of 11. He then chose the artist name Bordalo II after his grandfather, Artur Reel Bordalo (1925-2017) in order to honor him. Artur Bordalo studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon for eight years but didn’t completely finish. His passion for art started with his grandfathers paintings, when he was younger he would observe them on the wall for countless hours.
Bordalo II creates sculptures from different trash objects he can find around the city like scraps, old tires, car carcasses, appliances, plastic and aluminum cans. His art work is focused on the materialistic and consumerist society we live in. His sculptures also makes us question the destruction of the planet.
The animals that he makes using the scraps are species that are affected by his population. His creations show various of animals such as bears, foxes, birds, elephants, felines and different sea creatures.
Artur Bordalo has created about two hundred animal sculptures and has used more than 60 tons of reusable materials since 2012. His artwork can be found all around the world.
When he is not traveling, he works in his sculptures in his tiny studio in a northern Lisbon neighborhood while listening to electronic music.

Achievements He would have numerous solo shows but also be a part of shows and festivals such as Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas and Graffiti Street Underground.
