Asansol Metropolitan Area or Asansol Urban Agglomeration is an Urban Agglomeration which is the 39th largest in India[2], 4th largest in East India and 2nd largest in West Bengal.[3]
The metropolitan area, constituted on the basis of 2011 census data, consists of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), 3 municipalities, some Panchayats and parts of Panchayats. The three municipalities are Raniganj, Kulti and Jamuria. According to the Kolkata Gazette notification of 3 June 2015, the municipal areas of Kulti, Raniganj and Jamuria were included within the jurisdiction of Asansol Municipal Corporation.[4]
