Asdfasdf

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The letter combination "asdfasdf" originated around the year 2000 with the rise of digital computers and the internet, which is typically used to fill empty spaces of text in order to visualise something that is unrelated to the actual content of the text, to express anger or resentment, or to test online text input features like search bars.[1] This specific combination of symbols is created by letting your pinky, ring, middle and index finger fall onto the keyboard twice in that order, while the hand is positioned in the default "touch typing" position on most European and American keyboard layouts. For this reason it is often created on accident, and typically one of the most likely letter combinations to be generated after attempting to hit a random set of keys. Its emotional value, being connected with anger and often used to actively display one's despair, merely comes from the connection between the act of angrily hammering on your keyboard and hitting "asdfasdf" on accident, which eventually led people to simulate the situation of angrily hammering on their keyboard by typing "asdfasdf" much like an emoji, typically in online conversations with other people.[1]

The combination is said to date back to the computer science researcher Felix Kniest, who was allegedly watched performing the manoeuvre during a project presentation at his workplace, though multiple origins for this phenomenon are of course very likely.
