Richter's early projects focus on imaging and building the multimodal and immersive digital twin of archaeological sites,[3][4] world monuments, and secure facilities, including UNESCO World Heritages sites such as Petra,[5][6] Palazzo Vecchio[7][8] and the Duomo’s Baptistery.[9] This work was initially with CyArk and California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) within the University of California, San Diego[10][11] working under Maurizio Seracini, Thomas E. Levy and Erez Ben-Yosef.

Richter is currently a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at the Central Intelligence Agency-backed In-Q-Tel, where she leads research and investments in the future of spatial computing, including geospatial mapping, mixed reality, smart cities, and artificial intelligence.[12][13]

Richter is a descendant of antiquarian Ole Worm.[14]
