Asha Bhosle-Kishore Kumar is a singing duo of Bollywood, the Indian Hindi film industry. They have together sung nearly 600 duets starting from 1950 till Kishore's death in 1987. Kumar's last song was a duet with Asha Bhosle, "Guru Guru" from Waqt Ki Awaz. Their first duet was "Main Bengali Chokra" from Raagini (1950) and last duet was "Dil Tujhko Diya" from Akhri Sanghursh (1997). In the 1970s and 1980s Kumar was a regular playback singer, and in these two decades there were many Kumar and Bhosle duets.[1]

The Singing Duo[edit]

Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle were Bollywood playback singers. Kishore was born on 4 August 1929 and Asha was born on 8 September 1933. Asha was only four years younger than Kishore. So they were very friendly. Both Asha and Kishore started their career in 1948. They recorded their first duet "Main Bengali Chokra" in Raagini (1950). Kishore and Asha together sang some of the greatest hits of Bollywood including "Chhod Do Aanchal", "Ankhon Mein Kya Ji", "Haal Kaisaa Hai", "Aap Yahan Aaye Kisliye", "Tu Tu Hai Wahi l", "Mausam Pyaar Ka", "Jaane Jaan Dhoondhta", "Saara Pyaar Tumhara", "Guru Guru", "Aa Dekhe Zara", "Aaj Rapat Jaye" etc. Kishore Kumar passed away in 13 October 1987. His last song was even a duet with Asha Bhosle. Due to a prominent singer, his songs were releasing even a decade after his death. The last ever Asha-Kishore duet is "Dil Tujhko Diya" from Akhri Sanghursh (1997). They were also prominent singers in bengali and together sung greatest duets in bengali also. These include "Amar Swapno Tumi","Adho Alo Chhayate","Chirodini Tumi Je Amar","Phulkoli Re Phulkoli" etc.

Legacy[edit]

The Kishore Kumar Asha Bhosle duet "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge" from Chor Machaye Shor (1973) inspired the title of the 1995 blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. [2] And also, their song "Lekar Hum Deewana Dil" was used as the title of 2014 film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. So, this singing duo is very influencial in bollywood.

S. D. Burman[edit]

S. D. Burman was the first music director of Bollywood who consistently used Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar in the 1950s, when he wasn't in speaking terms with Lata Mangeshkar. At that time he determined to sprout the career of Asha. Despite this fact that Asha and Kishore sang in every major film of Burman, the total duets of them are only 14. In 1957, he used the Asha-Kishore duet "Akhon Mein Kya Jee" in the Soundtrack of Nau Do Gyarah. The song attained immense popularity. The song "Chhod Do Aanchal" from Paying Guest (1957) and "Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka" from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) became an all time hits and are considered as classical gems today. In 1965 film Teen Devian, their song "Are Yaar Mere Ho Tum Bhi Ho Ghazab". It became a chartbaster and even popular till date. Some of their popular songs under Burman include "O Ji O Humein" from Funtoosh (1956), Tum Jahan Jahan" from Apna Hath Jagannath (1960) etc.[1]

Shankar Jaikishan[edit]

Shankar Jaikishan's composition mainly is symphonic to Lata Mangeshkar and Mukhesh duets, when it comes to duets. But they also composed many duets for Asha-Kishore duo also. R. D. Burman[edit]

R. D. Burman was the biggest mentor of this duo. He made this duo the most sought after singing pair in the 1970s and 1980s, upon composing more than two hundred Asha-Kishore duets, resulting in enormous hits. In 1972, the duo saw the zenith of their pair-up with the film Jawani Deewani. This film has three Asha-Kishore duets. The song "Jaane Jaan" is the most successful rendition if this duo till date. It captured 26th position in the annual top chart of Binaca Geetmala. Though ranked so poorly, the song has become an aaltime hit and is still popular in thee same mmanner even today. The other two songs weree "Agar Saaz Chhedo Toh" aand "Nahi Nahi Abhi Nahi" were also hits.[5] In 1975, the duet "Keh Doon Tumhe" from Deewar became a chartbaster. The song "Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne" from Kaalia, "Aaj Rapat Jaye" from Namak Halaal (1982), "Tu Tu Hai Wahi" from Yeh Wada Raha, "Mausam Pyaar Ka" from Sitamgar (1985) etc. also became huge hits.
