Asian Peace Prize Foundation
The Asian Peace Prize Foundation is a charitable organization based in Qatar /Dubai with several branch’s all over the world .Its establishment was guided by a genuine desire to recognize and honor exceptional individuals worldwide who devoted themselves to the attainment of peace, pursuit of human rights, amelioration of human well-being, promotion of international relations, cultural and social progress or economic development. Through the admirable example of laureates’ contributions to mankind, the Foundation aims at promoting the respect for human life and dignity in various areas such as politics, humanities, journalism, economics, scientific discoveries, medicine, arts and literature. Its mission is to support global effort for peace, democracy, equality, goodwill and work towards the achievement of a prosperous barrier-free world.
In order to reach this objective, the Foundation’s committee members, many of whom have been involved for years in other charitable associations with purpose to ameliorate the conditions of the deprived, poor and sick especially in Asia , Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam …, Middle East and Africa, are determined to put their valuable experience together to make Asia and Africa thriving and respectful actors on a global geopolitical scene. Apart from awarding distinguished individuals for their extraordinary merits, the Asian Peace Prize Foundation has an ambition to play an active role in sustainable development via providing funds and support to non-profit organizations worldwide, preference in Asia and Africa. It provides funding to organizations that promote community involvement and aspire to improve general welfare in areas such as civic and community development, environment, education, human health, culture, animal welfare or wellness. The acquisition of the funding is subjected to the evaluation of organization’s attributes in terms of sustainability, innovation, impact on the well-being of the population, network of partnerships, visionary leadership etc.
Based on the concept of a common development of ideas and sharing of knowledge, the Asian Peace Prize Foundation enhances communication and collective action in order to tackle complex social and economic challenges. It equally supports and connects innovative approaches of different non-profit organizations to achieve long-lasting results prosperous for the whole community. The Foundation and its Board of directors are also directly involved in the community development thanks to innovative projects that have for mission to advance public well-being. The core values of the Foundation are responsiveness, accessibility, transparency, fairness and involvement. They guide its funding action in supporting non-profit organizations focused on the attainment of peace, development of philanthropic values, promotion of economic and social growth and general well-being of Asian and African people. The Gusi Peace Prize is given to recognize individuals and organizations who contribute to global peace and progress through a wide variety of fields. The awards ceremonies are held yearly in Manila, Philippines, on the fourth Wednesday of November.[2]
In addition to the award, the foundation conducts charity and medical outreach programs in different provinces in the Philippines.[3]
The Gusi Peace Prize is referred to in Presidential Proclamation No. 1476[4] signed by President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on 17 March 2008, declaring every fourth Wednesday of November as "Gusi Peace Prize International Friendship Day".
The Gusi Peace Prize was founded by its now chairman Barry Gusi as a way to continue the work of his late father Gemeniano Javier Gusi, said to be a World War II warrior who fought against the Japanese and later became a politician and human rights advocate.
