Asian Science Camp 2015

The Ninth Asian Science Camp (ASC2015), hosted by Thailand on 2nd-8th August 2015, was organized by the Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation[1] (POSN) to celebrate the 60th Birthday Anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Chairman of POSN. ASC 2015 was held at Sirindhorn Science Home and Thailand Science Park Convention Center, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Patumthani, and co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Science Society of Thailand under Royal Patronage, and the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology. Participants came from 28 countries in Asia and included 255 students (215 from overseas and 40 from Thailand), as well as 39 country leaders.
Overall Program
The ASC2015 Program included Plenary Lectures and Panel Discussion by Nobel Laureates and other award-winning scientists. Camp Sessions were also held so that students could engage in more extended interactions with Plenary Speakers. In addition, leading young Thai scientists held Dialogue Sessions in specific subject areas.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn delivered a lecture on "Young Scientists of Asia."

Panel Discussion
All Plenary Speakers engaged in a Panel Discussion on "How Can Science Improve the Future of Mankind", chaired by M.R. Jisnuson Svasti, Chairman of the ASC2015 Organizing Committee.
Dialogue Sessions
Dialogue Sessions with students on specific subject areas were led by leading young Thai scientists, namely: Tirayut Vilaivan, Pimchai Chaiyen, Suwabun Chirachanchai, Worawat Meevasana, Tienthong Thongpanchang and Nitsara Karoonuthaisiri.
Poster Sessions
Poster preparation sessions were arranged, so that mixed groups of 4-5 students from different countries prepared posters together, encouraging interaction between students from different countries. Finally, a Poster Presentation session was held with a total of 53 posters, so that each poster could be viewed and discussed among students, speakers, and teachers.
Student Awards
Students were encouraged to ask questions after lectures, and Best Question Awards were given to students who asked the best questions at the Plenary Lectures, Dialogue Sessions and Camps. Overall, 24 students from 14 countries received Best Question Awards. For the Poster Session, 3 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, and 9 Bronze Awards were given, together with 2 Honorary Mentions. Of the awards, one poster also received the Student Popular Vote Award, while another received the Teacher Popular Vote Award.
Cultural Events
Demonstration of Thai culture included Thai boxing, Thai classical dance, and handicrafts, and ASC2015 students were engaged to perform these activities.
Excursions
Participants made site visits to selected laboratories of the National Science and Technology Development Agency. An excursion was made to Ayutthaya Historical Park, including Bang Pa-in Royal Palace, Holland House, the Japanese Village, Ayothaya Floating Market, Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Center.
