Asis Kumar Chattopadhyay
Asis Kumar Chattopadhyay (born December 25, 1959) is an Indian statistician. He is a Professor of Statistics, Former Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India.
He completed his B.Sc. (Presidency College), M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Statistics from University of Calcutta in the years 1979, 1981, and 1988, respectively, and joined the faculty of Statistics Department at University of Calcutta in the year 1987 to continue to date. [1] He held several invited positions at various institutions like Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune, Concordia University[2] in Canada, Institut de Planétologie et d'Astrophysique de Grenoble in France, and Southern Queensland University in Australia.
Dr. Chattopadhyay's research area includes Demography, Statistical Computing, Astrostatistics, Multivariate Analysis, and Data Mining. [3] [4][5] [6] [7][8] He is among the pioneers to contribute to the interdisciplinary field of research "Astrostatistics". Under his supervision, the subject was included as a special paper in the M.Sc. course in the Department of Statistics, Calcutta University.
