Association for Genome Diagnostics

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Association of Genome Diagnostics (AGD), founded in 1984.[1], is a German non-profit organization for specialists in human genetics. As of 2020, the organization has approximately 500 members which share an interest in human genetics and bioinformatics.

Mission[edit]

AGD’s mission is to advance diagnostics and therapy in the field of medical genetics through excellence in research, education, and advocacy. The AGD is also concerned with ethical, legal and social problems that may arise from the application of molecular biological methods to humans.

It serves research scientists, health professionals and the general public by providing forums to:

  • Share and present research results at the AGD annual meeting.
  • Providing data sets for training artificial intelligence on sequence and medical imaging data.

AGD annual meeting[edit]

The meeting features presentations from leading geneticists as well as from young scientists[2]. The AGD also hosts a poster competition with the highest endowed prize in the field of genetics. The award is referred to as Peter’s Poster Prize as homage to Peter Nürnberg a long-standing chairman of the AGD. From 2020, the annual meeting is held as a hybrid conference, with all its content also available online.

All talks, except those of the winners of the poster prize, are invited by the commission of the scientific program[3]

The annual meeting also offers exhibitors the opportunity to interact with attendees and promote their services, products, and new technology, including state-of-the-art medical and laboratory equipment, and computer software designed to enhance genetics research and data analysis.
