Associazione Amici della Musica

The Associazione Amici della Musica has its seat in Alcamo, in the Province of Trapani.

History

The association was founded in 1986 by a group of people who were fond of classical music: its purpose is to favour the best diffusion of music and, above all, the young. 

It has performed its activities both in Alcamo and in the municipalities of the district: Buseto Palizzolo, Calatafimi Segesta and Castellammare del Golfo (in the province of Trapani), Balestrate and Partinico (in the province of Palermo).

So the association has been a valid alternative to the usual repertoire proposed by the Opera houses, as it has presented contemporary music too.

Activity

It organizes these events: 

• Concert season (for its season ticket holders), since 1987: every year there are about 14 concerts with the partecipation of famous Italian and foreign instrumentalists.i.
• Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici “Città di Alcamo”(International Contest for Lyrical Singers) since 1998: the competitors from any nations can take part in it and will be judged by an International Technical Jury; besides some cash prizes and grants, winners will be allowed to partecipate in different concerts and auditions.

(In the final evening of the last edition’s contest held in Alcamo on 8 October 2017, the winner was the Russian baritone MuKhametzianov Marat)

• Premio Internazionale per la Cultura “Vissi d’Arte-Città di Alcamo” (International Prize for Culture), created in 2001: it is assigned to worldwide personalities of Culture and Art that in a way often disinterested but enthusiastic, skilled and regular, have performed, are performing and will perform their activities in the fields of knowledge, research, science and arts where all human beings find solace, stimulus and many other things. The prize is a precious silver work, exclusively realized for it. 

In the past editions the prize was assigned to famous personalities such as: the stilista Giorgio Armani, Fabio Capello (former football coach of A.S. Roma, Juventus and A.C. Milan), the General Saverio Capolupo (the Commander of Guardia di Finanza, the state's attorney Franco Roberti, and the President of Senate of the Republic Pietro Grasso.
