Asxab Tamaev (Russian: Aсхаб Тамаев) is a Russian MMA fighter, promoter, and social media influencer hailing from the Chechen Republic. He quickly became famous for his role as a manager for Hasbulla Magomedov, a dwarf Russian influencer.[1]

Rise to fame

Hasbulla vs Abdurozik

On November 3, 2020, Tamaev released the first video on his YouTube channel featuring his client in fight management, Hasbulla Magomedov, who has dwarfism[2]. The video followed a day in the life of Tamaev while being accompanied by Magomedov. Throughout the video, Tamaev interviewed Magomedov, and in the interview, Magomedov’s social media career up to that point was discussed. It was announced that Magomedov wanted to fight someone, preferably for $150,000[3]. On January 20, 2021, Tamaev released a video on his YouTube channel showing off Abdul Rozik, an opponent for Magomedov, hailing from Tajikistan, with a similar stature due to also having dwarfism.[4] On May 17, 2021, Tamaev hosted a press conference for the two fighters on his YouTube channel.[5][6]. The potential fight stirred up controversy from the Russian Dwarf Athletic Association, who branded it as 'unethical'. Tamara Podpalnaya, a Russian athlete with dwarfism, commented on the fight by saying "There's nothing serious about this, this isn't sport. This is unethical, wrong, from my point of view."[7]

Mixed martial arts career

Tamaev made his professional MMA debut at 17 years old on December 27, 2018, when he faced Ukrainian MMA fighter Philip Tretiak in a three-round fight in Moscow, Russia. Tamaev won the fight by unanimous decision after going the distance. He shouted “Allahu Akbar” in celebration after getting the win.[8]
