Athena is a platform of special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), with multiple investment vehicles listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The Athena vehicles and their management teams, boards and advisors are all women. The platform was founded by Isabelle Freidheim.

Athena Technology

When the first Athena SPAC went public via IPO in March 2021, Athena Technology Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: ATHN), its CEO Phyllis Newhouse was the first Black woman to take a company public and the management team was the first Black women CEO and CFO duo with Grace Vandercruze as its CFO. Athena's chairman Isabelle Freidheim became the youngest female chairman ever of a publicly traded company. Athena Acquisition announced a $2 billion business combination with Bill Gates backed Heliogen and raised a $165m PIPE, which included investors such as Morgan Stanley and strategic investor ArcelorMittal. The transaction closed in December 2021.

Heliogen, Inc. (HLGN: NYSE), founded by Bill Gross, provides AI-enabled concentrated solar energy. Billionaire founder Bill Gross was ousted by the board in 2023. In April 2023, Bill Gross and Continuum Renewables made a tender offer to purchase the company.

Athena Consumer

Athena Consumer Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: ACAQ) raised $230 million in an NYSE IPO in October 2021. Its CEO Jane Park was the first Korean-American woman to take a company public. In July 2022, Athena Consumer Acquisition Corp. announced a business combination with e.GO, the German electric vehicle producer in July 2022. e.GO utilizes disruptive approaches to vehicle design, manufacturing and services to produce urban vehicles with a focus on affordability, convenience, practicality and smart services. Led by Chairman Ali Vazvei, e.GO announced a cargo model at the 2022 Paris Motor Show in addition to its existing e.GO Life and e.GO Wave models.

Neymar serves as the global ambassador for e.Go.

Athena Technology Acquisition Corp. II

In December 2021, Athena Technology Acquisition Corp. II went public via IPO on the NYSE with former Softbank partner Kirthiga Reddy as its president and board member. Isabelle Freidheim serves as its chairman and CEO. Together they raised $250 million in an IPO on the NYSE, Reddy as its president and board member. In April 2023, Athena Technology II announced a combination with Air Water Ventures. The UAE based company is one of the largest producers of sustainable water in the world and provides water to several hotel groups and government departments across the Middle East.

Athena Chairman Isabelle Freidheim serves as a board member of the Growth for Good SPAC.

Athena President Kirthiga Reddy took public via SPAC three companies in which she led investments while a partner at Softbank: ionQ, WeWork and Pear Therapeutics. Reddy joined the board of WeWork before stepping down in 2023. She was WeWork's first female board member as a publicly traded company.[1][2][3][4]

Andrea Tarbox, a member of Athena Tech II, previously took public Navitas Semiconductors and Danimer Scientific with the Live Oak SPACs for which she acted as CFO, as well as KapStone Paper and Packaging, which she took public via SPAC in 2006 and as part of the transaction joined the company as CFO. She led 5 major acquisitions and the company was acquired in 2018 by WestRock.[5]
