Austin Allen (born 1984) is an American poet and literary critic.

Life and career[edit]

Allen was born and raised in Connecticut. He earned a BA from Yale University, an MFA in Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in English/Creative Writing from The University of Cincinnati. Allen has worked as an editor and taught creative writing at Johns Hopkins University and The University of Cincinnati.[1]

His first collection of poetry, Pleasures of the Game (Waywiser Press, 2016), was published in October 2016 as the winner of the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize, selected by Eavan Boland.[2] [3] Allen's poetry has appeared in The Yale Review, The Sewanee Review, The Missouri Review, Verse Daily, and the Hopkins Review. He is the former editor-in-chief of the Poetry Genius project at Genius (website).[4] His literary criticism has been published by The Poetry Foundation, JSTOR Daily and other periodicals.
