Australian Leadership Index is a research study of leadership in Australia established by Swinburne University of Technology. Data is collected by surveying a cross-section of the Australian public, placing values on how they perceive government, public, private, and not for profit sectors are performing on leadership in their respective areas of operation. The results are reported on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis through an online dashboard, and via monthly articles,[1] annual reports,[2] special reports[3] and scholarly articles.[4]
History[edit]
The Australian Leadership Index was founded by Swinburne University of Technology[5] in 2018 with funding by the Graham Foundation[6], with the research study's results first published later that year.
Survey results are published and integrated into the Australian Leadership Index monthly with users able to extract data and compare results over a number of different periods, including monthly, quarterley and year-on-year via the study's interactive dashboard.
Survey method[edit]
The ALI survey is conducted throughout the year on a weekly basis with n=1,000 surveys[7] being collected each quarter (n=4,000 per year).[8]
The survey measures public expectations and perceptions[9] [10] for each of the following dimensions, for each institution:
- Leadership for the greater good
- Social outcomes
- Economic outcomes
- Environmental outcomes[11]
- Transparency
- Ethical standards
- Accountability
- Responsiveness to society
- Responsiveness to people's needs
- Balancing the needs of different groups
The survey also collects data on which specific organizations are helping or harming the greater good.[12]
Profiling data is collected about each participant so analysis can be conducted across various cross sections of the Australian population.
Sectors and institutions measured[edit]
The Australian Leadership Index tracks the performance of a wide range of institutions across the government, public, private, and not for profit sectors.[12][13][14]
This includes:
