The Austrian Fire Brigade Association - in Austria abbreviated with ÖBFV, is the head organization of the individual fire brigade associations of Austria's federal states. Contrary to the federal states' fire brigade associations which are public bodies, the Austrian Fire Brigade is a registered association located in Vienna.

Duties and Responsibilities[edit]

The main duty is the coordination of the federal states' fire brigade associations. For example the main directives for design and construction of fire engines and other firefighting equipment are drawn up by the Austrian Fire Brigade Association, as well as the main directives for education and training of the Austrian firefighters.

Furthermore it is the main lobbying group for firefighters on the federal level. It represents the concerns of the Austrian firefighters and the fire brigades towards the different public institutions, law makers and other stakeholders.

While the federal states are responsible for the public fire service in their jurisdiction, the Austrian federal government is responsible for the civil protection. Therefore the Austrian Fire Brigade Association is coordinating and supervising the civil protection of the federal states. Furthermore it is responsible of distributing the funding from the national civil protection budget towards the federal states.

It also represents the Austrian fire brigades on international levels; it is the Austrian representative in the CTIF as well as in the european association FEU.
