Autodale
Autodale is an ongoing dystopian / apocalyptic series of animated short films created by David Armsby, known as Dead Sound on YouTube.[1] The series was started in 2017 based on a painting by David Armsby entitled "Don't Feed the Freaks".[2] Most of the stories take place in the city of Autodale which has incredibly strict rules and systems, the people of Autodale live in a never ending cycle of 1950's culture where the slightest deviation can lead to death.

Autodale is currently composed of six short films varying in length, of which all are currently available on the Dead Sound YouTube channel.[1] One upcoming film has been announced.[4]

Being Pretty[edit]
The first film in the Autodale series sets the tone of this dystopian town. It show's us that only those who are "pretty" and useful survive. All the "ugly" are put to death.[5]
No Monsters[edit]
This film focuses on the brainwashing of Autodale children, convincing them they are safe within the walls of Autodale. We are introduced to the concept of the "exceptional" and the hive.[6]
Children's Toys[edit]
Again we see into the world of brainwashing children this time through the propaganda and toys, the manipulation of imagination.[7]
Don't Feed the Freaks[edit]
Being the only film to not share the dystopian genre, this apocalyptic short film takes us outside of Autodale.[8]
Model Citizen[edit]
In this short film we see the eternal self sustaining cycle of Autodale from the perspective of the delusional Robinson family. It brings to light that the citizens are people, but they are so compliant that when they are put to death it is willingly.[9]
Friendly Shadow[edit]
The longest film in series, is a new unknown perspective for Autodale, this is the first film where we see the perspective from someone disillusioned by Autodale and not brainwashed. This detective film shares its visuals with the others but from this new perspective it takes on a film noir approach. This is the second film that freaks make a full appearance.[4]
Euphemisms[edit]
Within the city limits of Autodale various terms are applied to the citizens, prominently being "pretty" and "ugly".[5][6]
"Pretty"[edit]
This is the label put on those who are fit to carry on life in Autodale.
"Ugly"[edit]
Any who disobey the rules of Autodale, or who don't fit into the system of Autodale are considered "ugly". Cripples, older people, and all various assortments of people are labeled "ugly".
"Exceptional"[edit]
Used when referring to those that are going to become part of the hive.
